As a family, it is always nice to have somewhere that you and the kids can relax after a long day, and a snug could be the ideal option for your home. Here are some of the ways you can make a cute little snug in your house to keep everyone relaxed and happy.
In our house, we have what we call the den or play room. We use each name interchangeably. This room is big so we have the kids’ library in one corner, a table that we can fold and put out of the way, the TV and DVDs, and all of our kids’ toys.
Needless to say this is where we spend the most time as a family.
What is a Snug?
This is a British term that I really liked when I heard it. I haven’t heard anyone in America use this word this way but I like it. Basically, a snug is a comfy room. It’s a place for relaxation and comfort.
Get comfy chairs
The main thing about creating a snug for your family is making it as cozy as possible, and because of this, you will want to really find the comfiest chairs you possibly can. You can look online at somewhere like civic
We like to have
They’re kind of shaped like a chair so I feel like they’re more comfortable than just your basic ball shaped bean bag chair.
Bring in some soft furnishings
Once you have your chairs it’s time to make the space even cozier and bring in a few pillows and a couple of blankets so that you and your family can cuddle up on a cold evening. Soft furnishings add that extra level of comfort and they also bring a nice design element into
Lighting
The lighting of your snug will depend on what you plan to do in that room. If the room is acting as a reading room or a games room for the family you will want to have a decent amount of light in the space so that people can see what they are doing. If you’ll be spending the odd evening in here playing games or watching TV, you can bring in a few small candles for soft lighting and a large floor lamp to illuminate the space softly.
We use smart lightbulbs in our house so that we can dim the lights how we want them with our phones. I simply tell my phone to turn the lights to 20% and we have a nice soft light to relax in.
I even set them to a schedule to dim at a specific time. When it’s getting closer to bed time our lights start to dim so that the kids feel that it’s time to get “snug” and cozy and settle down before bed.
Pick Pleasant Colors
Feel free to go as crazy or reserved as you want with your color scheme in this room and you can even mix up more than one color for the walls. Have fun with the design and make the room feel like something special.
A Thick Carpet
The whole point of
Try and get yourself a nice large carpet to enjoy while you are in the snug with your family and this gives people the freedom to lie on the floor if they so choose. You can even bring a soft rug in as well for an extra level of fluffiness and none of your family will ever want to leave the room!
Do You Have a “Snug”
Where’s your comfiest place in the house? What do you do to make it feel warm and welcoming?

This is such a cool concept name! It’s perfect because the room that we spend the most time together with our family should be the most snug and comfortable room in the house (so that we will WANT to be together even more)! I love the bean bag chairs for the kids, such a cool idea Ü
This is such a great idea!! We are huge homebodies and love spending time at home. We spend the most time in our living room, but it could use some work to make it more comfortable. I’m going to use these tips!
We are currently working on our “snug” I have never heard that term either! We are turning our dining room into a playroom or a snug.
How fun! We love having a place that’s comfy and cozy to read together or watch movies together.
Awe, this is so cute! I love the phrase! I want an ultimate snug for sure!
